Teaching

College

I’ve directed productions and taught college courses on directing, acting, and composition to undergraduates at The University of Texas at Austin; and developed student work for San Francisco State University. College classes are a fantastic opportunity to teach collaboration, communication, and public speaking skills and I welcome the opportunity to work with theatre majors and non-majors alike.

High School

I’ve taught high school students at schools, camps, workshops, and as part of school productions. At the Bentley School in Orinda, California I created and lead classes in playwriting, acting, and dramatic literature in addition to directing a 30-person production of “Guys and Dolls.” I use my high school classes to encourage interdisciplinary thinking in addition to dramatic skills. For instance, when teaching my unit on Greek drama, students learn about classic dramatic structure in addition to writing and performing closing arguments as lawyers for Medea.

Elementary and Middle School

I love introducing younger students to the joys of theater and have been privileged to work with a number of fantastic programs including serving as a headteacher at San Francisco’s Children’s After School Art’s program (CASA). In addition to offering daily classes, each year CASA creates an original musical with over 200 students that address issues of social and environmental justice. These musicals have even been featured on This American Life! During the pandemic, I’ve kept working with this age group, teaching filmmaking and creating movies over Zoom with students.
